Our journey in life may seem like riding a roller coaster, with exhilarating highs, and gut-wrenching lows. Regardless of where you are on the journey, the soul needs a place of stability to survive the vicissitudes in life.
King David's life was unstable. He grew up in a community that despised him, all because his mother conceived him after his father divorced her on the premise of questioning his ancestry. His father unjustly discriminated against him by showing favor towards his brothers and kept him isolated on the back side of the desert, attending sheep. His great-great grandfather committed incest with his daughter-in law, Tamar, who portrayed herself as a prostitute.
David's inherited instability continued into his adult life. He committed adultery and murder.
Despite his gloomy history, David was a skilled warrior and musician, but most notable, he was a man after God's heart. How could such modest acclamation be given to someone with a deplorable history as David's? The answer lies in his passionate devotion to God. He knew how to approach God in humility and with sincerity in sharing the deepest sentiments of his heart. From this passion, he composed the psalms.
David wrote many of the psalms. His poetic expressions are applicable for every situation or circumstance in life. Like David, when we fill our heart with praise, adoration, and thanksgiving to God, we gain strength to weather the billowing storms that beat against the soul.
There is a Psalm for the Heart that lifts the weight of the burden of care.

Wonderful book!
I love this book thats full of encouraging words that inspire and bring hope to your soul.
I found Psalms For The Heart by Janice M. Freel to be incredibly honest open and a demonstration of a soul determined to serve God, obeying at every turn, including during misfortunes - still holding to his great and abundant love. The book is essentially a map - a guide to living in light and appreciating God's mercy and grace. Ms. Freel captures just how much God continues to love us, no matter what and that we can, indeed depend on him! A great read!
